For my internship, I decided to work with Rich Tubiolo in his Alameda Rockshop program.
11/7/2013
FIrst day of the program. I learned how to set up all of the equipment. Met most of the kids who enrolled. Four of them were kind of already a band. We taught them how to correctly wind up the different audio and amplifier cables. I never thought middle school kids would listen to music like Motorhead and Slayer.
11/14/2013
All the kids showed up this time. They feed off of each other's hype. If they aren't on an instrument, they are nearly impossible to control.
11/21/2013
Almost went through the first set of three songs without error. Singers still need to get their lines memorized.
12/5/2013
We promted them to learn their songs from start to finish while on Thanksgiving break, and they followed through. Probably picking another three songs next week.
12/12/2013
Unusually calm day. I guess rain does drain energy. They switched up the groups and picked their next songs.
12/19/2013
Last session before skipping two weeks. They are so excited, but they barely learned any of their new songs.
1/9/2014
Back from winter break. These kids are so unpredictable. We are dumbfounded when it comes to knowing their motivations.
1/16/2014
They're finally on track. The six songs can be played with small or no errors. We will have a full set soon.
1/23/2014
I don't know why these kids would be excited about the end of a semester. They're just weird in their own ways.
1/30/2014
The nine song set is now set. Three weeks to polish it up.
2/6/2014
I'd expect them to have made better progress, but there was almost no improvement from last week.
2/13/2014
Now they're doing better. We got through all nine songs with minimal mistakes. Nine days until the show. I hope nobody discovers they have stage fright.
2/22/2014
Show happened tonight. Would have gone better for me if I wasn't sick. All the kids showed up when they were supposed to. We were able to get the sophomores to sell food. There was a pretty big crowd, but almost nobody bought from them. I'm a little surprised a survived the day.
